The Wood House is a charming, traditionally constructed (Kath Kuni Style) independent cottage built using “only” natural materials showcasing the local craftsmanship and laying emphasis on sustainable practices. Kath means wood and Kuni means edges. The whole house is made wooden logs stacked one on
top of the other and skillfully interlocked using traditional wood carving methods that have prevailed since centuries. The wood used is the specific Deodar ( Cedar) wood that is known to have a slight flex in the structure that makes it more workable as well as allows for that very little movement of the structure in case of earthquakes. The structure features a wooden framework of pillars and floors and walls build with stone blocks and wooden logs interspaced equally. The flooring too is 100% cedar wood. Both the wood and the stone have been sourced from the land itself so as to fully utlizing the local resources creating a rustic, organic feel that radiates warmth and authenticity.
The house includes five bedrooms, a living room, library, kitchen, and dining area, each thoughtfully designed to provide comfort and a connection to nature. Here too like the stone house the rooms are named after the wildlife that is frequently spotted in the area. We used the local nominclature for the wildlife so as to familiarize the guests with the local langauage of the region too.
On the ground floor (GF), there are two bedrooms named Een (Flying Squirrel) and Shaahi (Porcupine), while the first floor (FF) has Shyal (Fox) and Kakkar (Barking Deer). The second floor (SF) accommodates the Braag Attic Suite (Leopard).
This thoughtful naming adds character and also fosters a deeper connection between the house and its natural surroundings. The use of these animal names also highlights the ecological diversity of the area, making sure to make you feel a part of the local diversity of the region. Overall our aim is to make you feel one with nature while experiening the local culture of the regio too.
